Excellent, as always. I am glad to see someone who knows that not all hyenas are spotted (a slight peeve of mine - I am more bothered by people who think all cattle are holsteins).
Being a D&D geek, I'll think of this as an excellent representation of a gnoll bard (from a more advanced tribe than those depicted in the rules).
My string-and-Dixie-cup dial-up didn't show the thumbnail, so when I saw the title, I thought it might be a treatment of the Celtic ballad about the two sisters. One sister murders the other out of jealousy. In some versions the murdered sister is turned into a swan first, but in any case, her bones and hair end up being made into a harp. When it is brought into the presence of the wicked sister, the harp plays by itself, and the murdered sister's voice sings the sad tale. Have you illustrated this story? - I know you do many wonderful fantasy themes.

I like Loreena McKennitt. I have several of her albums, and have listened to some others, but I either missed that one, or have forgotten it. I'll have to look into that.
I don't remember where I first heard the tale. I remember reading a fantasy short story rendering of it, but don't remember what collection it was in. Recently I have come across two song versions. One is by Méav on her _Silver Sea_ album. The other is by Trasna, a local band here in Northern Virginia on their album _blueridgecelticfusion_. It is a trimmed down version without the bone harp aspect.
At the risk of contradicting myself, since I just said this was a less savage tribe, Unearthed Arcana has a Savage Bard variant with a more druid/barbarian flavor.
