Ages ago I ran a GURPS military campaign in a furry setting, in a world that was around the same tech level as ours during the 1960's and 1970's. Players were soldiers fighting for a republic named Gryerhan, defending their home against an authoritarian nation called Sardovia. It was a fun game, and I met some my best friends for life running it.

Here we have my character Tirin, dressed in the uniform of a Trooper* in the Gryerhanian 102nd Guards Cavalry Regiment, also known as the Black Knights. The 102nd Guards Cavalry has a long and storied history, beginning as an elite order of knights who were charged with protecting the life of the King of Gryerhan back when the nation was a monarchy. Eventually the knights were given the designation the 102nd Regiment, and following the abolition of the monarchy they were kept on as an elite conventional cavalry unit. With the advent of modern warfare and the obsolescence of soldiers on horseback, the 102nd took on the role of mechanized infantry and, following the invention of the helicopter, air cavalry. The 102nd was instrumental in the defense of the capitol city of Marchsburg during the Three-Year War between Gryerhan and Sardovia, and it was they who were charged with defense and eventual evacuation of the Parliamentary Building during the war's darkest days. Though the 102nd took heavy casualties during the siege, they remained an effective fighting force through to the end of the war.

*For most units in the Gryerhanian Army, "Private" is the lowest enlisted rank, denoted by a horizontal gold bar. In the 102nd, owing to its roots as a cavalry regiment, the lowest rank is "Trooper".
