It is a tragedy what happened in that country

Thank you, I may not be a kiwi myself but this has shaken New Zealand to the core. We've felt it all the way up here on the north island.

I actually think you guys feel it much harder BECAUSE of that complacent innocence. In New Zealand a mass shooting is a horrible tragedy people can barely begin to comprehend. In America, sadly, it's a Tuesday.

I won't lie, I was completely numb to this news. I really hate that it didn't shock or disturb me anymore, and was just as watchable as any other news story. South Park mocked this reaction on the opening episode of last season where the only person in town to freak out about the school shooting in South Park Elementary was Stan's mom, Sharon Marsh, and people kept dismissing it as hormonal hysteria caused by menopause. The kids even acted like it was just another school day and seemed annoyed by the noise of the gunfire and screams, and having to go through the motions of hiding under their desks and evacuating the school instead of learning.

I was sent a link to the shooter's vid (but I was suspicious of it) I turned to BBC and was astonished but not shocked and bothered as much as I should've been.

I figured and expected as much from South Park.

Out of all the places, why it got to be New Zealand? ;_;

Any place where there are people, there will be evil. This is a truth.

And here I was thinking to myself that New Zealand was one of the most peaceful, un-happening places in the world...

It is, which is why this has been such a shock to everyone. Heck, even to us non-kiwis living here.

Christchurch was the city that was devastated by an earthquake in 2011.

The only other mass shooting to occur in New Zealand was the 1990 Aramoana massacre.
