Adomm's game of ensuring her canvas doesn't catch onto what she does is not one born out of humor, but out of necessity. She cannot run nearly as fast as most humans, and when they escape her range, they are left with an incomplete transformation.
Adomm doesn't like leaving her work unfinished. Therefore, she takes great care in making sure her canvas stays oblivious to what's happening to it for as long as possible.
However, she's not dumb. In this particular case, the kid went ahead and locked himself in his room, effectively securing himself in place for her. Therefore, she doesn't have to play this game and can be as careless as she wants.
Of course, years of practice turned it into habit. She now has to make efforts to get her canvases to notice nowadays. This leads to some fairly... humorous discoveries.

Entirely a coincidence. She doesn't control his actions. In the case of a person who commonly sits, though, she would normally save the tail for last for the purpose of leaving him as oblivious as possible. But, again, because he locked himself in, she went right ahead with the tail despite his behavior because it was no risk to her.
