Definitely. I've read about early mail production, and it wasn't pretty. Sometimes, they didn't even have proper wire. They would cut slivers off of a thin sheet of metal and bend the rings from those slivers. -Shudders- It's tedious enough work with mass-produced wire readily available.
It was very profitable, though. You had to be well off to afford it, because of all the work that went into it.

I might just continue this piece later on, and see what it looks like as armor. Perhaps a simple vest. I have a feeling this pattern might go bad in anything more complex.
I'm planning on doing more bi-metallic pieces myself, but right now, I'm just playing around with whatever designs I run across. Can you point me to a good source?

I've found some decent books, but I haven't made any purchases yet. One of the better sources of weaves I've found online is http://www.mailleartisans.org/weaves/
Sure thing.
http://cgmaille.com/tutorials.shtml has some fun looking stuff
http://www.chainmailbasket.com/weaves.php I don't see anything really new here, but still interesting stuff.
I'm not sure you could tell me anything more about what you'd call unusual; I don't see a lot of the more complex or visually stimulating weaves attempted frequently.

I've seen these sites, too. :P Been wandering the internet looking for patterns for a while already. But thanks, anyway.
I'm not sure what I mean, exactly. Just want to find weaves you don't find all over the place already. I'm hoping for anything new at this point, really.
