Blue Macaw's Logo Bunch #151 - TV Channels #66
Hello folks, and welcome back to Logo Bunch. Before we start, I just like to say that I'm sorry for a week-long delay I have here. Apparently, I have sharp issues at home and won't have enough time to post this on the last week. But after a couple of delays, I'm finally back in action. With that said, today, we are going back to the USA to talk about another one of its famous local TV channels and another great Saturday morning block. For this one, I'll be doing this in the same format as what I did with The WB and Kids' WB!. I already talked about those, I talked about NBC, I talked a little bit about CBS, now we are going to move on to the American Broadcasting Company, otherwise known as ABC (or the Alphabet network, get it?), "requested" by Brochamp1235 on DA. For any ethnicities who don't know what it is, here's a history lesson: ABC was launched in May 15, 1943 by Edward J. Noble and Louis Blanche as a radio company serving as a successor to NBC Blue Network, obviously trying to capture the success of NBC as a radio company. But all that changed 5 years later when they venutred into television, and the rest is history. To this day, ABC has been ranked as one of the Big 3 major local channels in the USA, along with NBC and CBS, broadcasting a whole variety of shows which includes syndicated programming like Laverne & Shirley, General Hospital, Ugly Betty, Grey's Anotomy, Modern Family, The Goldbergs, among others; reality/game shows like Jeopardy!, Shark Tank, The Bachelor, America's Funniest Home Videos, and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?; TV Specials such as Prep & Landing and Peanuts; Talk shows like The View and Jimmy Kimmel; sports programming from ESPN; and most importantly: their daily news reports from Good Morning America, ABC World News, and Nightline. Ever since 1995, it has been a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, so yes, this is a Disney-related episode (and I'm still calling it as part of Disney edition!) And speaking of Disney, let's talk about ABC's most popular Saturday Morning block in history, suggested by DoctorJazzman1, also on DA. Even right up there with Kids' WB!. I'm talking about Disney's One Saturday Morning. The formation of the block begins in 1995. After Disney bought ABC, they start to show a few Disney Afternoon shows on their Saturday Morning block. At that time, Disney needed a new Saturday morning block. Enter Peter Hastings, a writer for Animaniacs and Pinky & the Brain, who left Warner Bros. Animation to work at Walt Disney Studios to make a new block that would change Saturday Mornings forever. So, on September 13, 1997, Disney's One Saturday Morning premiered on ABC for both kids and adults alike. The block had shown new Disney shows that Walt Disney Television Animation was served as their next task to make new Disney Animated shows after Disney Afternoon was finished. The complete list that Disney TV Animation shows that premiered on the block includes: The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (which ran on syndication for several years), Jungle Cubs (a kid version of The Jungle Book), 101 Dalmatians: The Animated Series, Doug (a continuation of the Nickelodeon series), Recess, Pepper Ann, Hercules: The Animated Series, Mickey Mouse Works (showing new Mickey Mouse shorts), The Weekenders, Teacher's Pet, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (a Toy Story spinoff show), House of Mouse (a spinoff of Mickey Mouse Works, and it's one of my favorites), Lloyd in Space (from the same creators of Recess), The Legend of Tarzan, and Teamo Supremo. Other shows premiered on the block as well: The Bugs Bunny Show (as The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show; before their contract with Warner Bros. ends in 2000 and were moved to Kids' WB! and Cartoon Network), Schoolhouse Rock!, Science Court/Squigglevision, Sabrina: The Animated Series and Mary-Kate & Ashley in Action. The block also comes with live-action segments such as Manny the Uncanny, Great Minds Think for Themselves: hosted by Genie from Aladdin (also Robin Williams' final appearance as the Genie after Aladdin & the King of Theives), How Much Stuff Can an Elephant Crush?, How Things Werk, Mrs. Munger's Class, Find Out Why!: hosted by Timon & Pumbaa from The Lion King, The Monkey Boys, What's Up with That?, and Tube Dwellers. Basically, the 3 shows that make it stand out as one of the best Saturday Morning blocks are Doug, Pepper Ann, and Recess. Oh, and let's not forget that catchy theme song! :D The block did so well that it even spun-off its weekday block on UPN called Disney's One Too which would run for 4 years. The block itself ran for a total of 5 years on ABC until September 14 2002, when it was replaced with ABC Kids on the same day when Fox Kids was changed into 4Kids TV (aka: FoxBox). In fact, this was during the time when Disney purchased Fox Kids Worldwide and it also sucks when One Saturday Morning ended on its 5th anniversary. But hey, for every 90s kid, people will always look back and remember Disney's One Saturday Morning, as well as Kids' WB! and Fox Kids, as the best blocks on a local network that changed Saturday mornings forever. Anyways, speaking of Fox Kids, we are going to talk about that soon, but not next. We will first have to go over another Disney property on the next episode. What is it? Stay Tuned and find out.
