I also took a few river rock from my backyard and placed them in the river. I tried looking for twigs that would look like dead wood, but could not find anything that looked HO scale to my satisfaction. So I bought a pack of Woodland Scenic deadwood for a few dollars and placed them also in the river bed before pouring the resin / hardener mixture.
