Anime character #3 - "Sheep"
Well, this isn't my best work. I'm none too happy with my character design but I gave it a go. Bishounen really isn't my comfortable style (and I'm realising that that's the style I was trying to go for with my project which just miiiiiiiiiiiiight have been the problem!! Ha ha!). I had to do a LOT of messing around with the initial sketch. I chopped it up and moved it around and re-sized it so many times and the proportions still aren't consistent with that style and I shoved a headshot in there to try and fill some of the blank space. The head on the body is STILL too big, despite being scaled down a lot from the original sketch. I think, in my heart, I'm really all about the cuter, chibi style. Ha ha.
On the plus-side, though, I did use it as an excuse to try out some shading techniques and, hey, I'm actually pretty happy with that! This is the first time I've mixed shading styles. I put hard cell-shading on the skin and the clothes that had a dense texture, and soft, blended shading on things like the hair, wool collar and cuffs and on the scarf and the mix seems to have worked pretty well.
Overall, I think I'll stick with chibi and shojo styles from now on. But I'm glad I gave this a go :)
