There it is :) I wouldn't be surprised if the Doom soundtrack got it right from that - a lot of its music was very much "inspired" by thrash metal songs.

If you read any of Bobby Prince's interviewers, basically id wanted all heavy or thrash metal in doom, but prince felt a more ambient approach would work better with the atmosphere. As of such, it became what it is today. Thrash was playing almost 24/7 at the id office and basically that's the soundtrack to the game, only with a twist. Alot of lines are ripped directly from Metallica, AC/DC, Alice in Chains and Slayer.

E3M8 is Slayer's Silent Scream for the curious. I used to have a whole list compiled of every 'real' song in doom but I've since lost it :(
