Wow, the choice of colors is amazing, I even mistaken it to be a photo of some odd Nordic shrine, the overall atmosphere is just great! I like the choice of weather, overcast with possibly a brief interruption in a rain keeping on for days, not the easiest subject to capture and it feels just right. Beautiful painting!
Oooooo this has such a good fantasy town vibe. Makes me think of a town that worshipped a god that either doesn't exist anymore, or that has fallen very much out of favour to the point where a town dedicated to it is basically empty.
Why would such a god have fallen into disrepair? Maybe slander, maybe they grew outdated in their influence or perhaps they were just passive and eventually faith fell off in favour of more directly influencing gods.
You'd run into this town as a side part of a quest perhaps, or maybe on the way back. If you investiagte there would be basically one family, or maybe just 1-2 people who still live here and worship their god. But being alone makes life hard and they do what they can but cannot really offer much to their diety anymore.
That shelter on it's head makes me think it at least has some domain over hearth and home. Perhaps being a god a shelter, but the world is ruled by a god of adventure and danger which has make it hard for the shelter god to keep homes safe which is why people stopped believing.
Very good piece, it speaks quite deeply of the world around it and the art style is really nice, the brown under lighting on the wings is really effective and even though the ground upon closer inspection is simple dabs of colour that hold no specificity the impression they give is strong and that is all that is needed.
