Andurians exist in a world of minor magics. About 40% of all andurians are born with an elemental gift, which funtions pretty much exactly the same as how it works in the 'avatar; the last airbender' universe, but with the added benefit of being able to shapeshift in ways that make them more suited to their element (wind mages can turn their arms into wings, water mages can grow gills, etc). Most gifted andurians will use scarification to mark their bodies with designs that display their given element. Dyeing one's fur is also fairly common, particularly in the case of those andurians whose fur is too dark for their black skin to show up well against it.

The dragons of the andurian homeworld are also elementally gifted... but instead of only a few having one element, all dragons have two. This has given them the idea that they are the planet's true owners, and they have been trying to eradicate the andurian species for longer than anyone can remember. Luckily they are also very anti-social, and andurians have been able to survive despite their comparative weakness by simply working together.
