Lot's wife (curiously not named in the Bible), was the only member of the

by the unique and rather horrifying curse of being turned wholly into salt.

That's something more significant than it seems at the surface, but I'm not a good enough folklorist to figure it out - other than the whole omphalos thing, or regional place-myth. I don't remember what Joseph Campbell had to say on the subject - I think in Hero With a Thousand Faces, when the topic comes up, he's more concerned with father-god as an ogre figure.
