Hmm, I may have missed it, but they seem to have neglected to mention Michale Moorcocks Eternal Champions series. His Gods of Law and Chaos relied on faith of their belivers to exist or have power and he wrote this long before most of the other SciFi/Fantasy authors mentioned.

What I really like is how you managed to get a sense of impressive scale in the god symbols, even though they are very simplified. Is there some kind of world-building behind it? I'd love to know more about the language, religious system or world behind the symbols...

So, will these apear carved on walls in the background of some painting of yours now? They are very iconic. You need symbols for other things now so you can do readable pictograhms.

I was thinking that too. They look like the lil sigils and various astrological/alchemedic patterns. I'm sure there's a proper word for it. (some of the stuff in the greater key of solomon is hard to get my head around)

are parts of the shapes derived from letters, like hebrew or farsi, that might partially spell out their names? i ask because i've seen calligraphy done like that.
(or possibly just inspired by the concept?)
