I would like to, at this time, offer this particular story for Thanksgiving reflection.
Though I wrote it some time ago, I never posted it as it was non-furry.
Inspired by the incomparable art of
darknatasha I am pleased to take you back to 1919.
It's not long, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
May God bless our servicemen and women and keep them safe.
Amen
Vixyy Fox

Priceless! Every neighborhood and every family should have an eccentric old veteran in their midst. Mine was my step-grandfather, who would share his stories of The War over beers with his young grandchildren.
He would crack one open and talk until there was just a bare sip left in the bottom and say "Go ahead and finish that and get me a cold one." Of course, by the time the evening got on, there would be a little more than a sip, then a swallow, then a little more than a swallow...
Anyway, to me, you have truly captured Thanksgiving here!

*is grinning widely by the time he gets to the bottom of the story, the old dragon's eyes glittering with wicked mirth*
Oh my... You know, if more sermons ended that way more frequently, churches would have a lot larger congregations than they do now... and much happier ones, at that.
*hugs a vixyy happily, chortling* You're a Mom, dear. It shines through so much of what you write.

Well, now I'm hungry... I'll take one standard vanilla and chocolate crazy cake please!
This was really wonderful. I've never really known what it was like to really know a war veteran. I mean, my mom's parents served in WWII I think, but I never really got a chance to talk to them about it. This story kinda makes me wish I had, just to know what it felt like to know a war veteran. Thank you for the feelings.
And you are such a mother. It shows so much in this.

*chuckles and smiles very big... I grew up with both WWi and WWII vets, though none that I knew truly talked about their experiences. You can always volunteer at an old folks home - if nothing else, just to listen. Take a tape recorder with you and record the stories for posterity, because they will truly be memorable.
tip - as a people, we look at old people and only see old people. We do not see who they were - young once and full of life.
*hugs...

Thank you for that great work Vixy! ***HUGE HUG***
It does strike a cord when one thinks about those who served. But then the cake does sound enticing!
Though I do hate to say it, but I think this will be my last holiday season. Don't ask me why, it's just a feeling. Thank You for everything you've done. It's always been a joy to read your works my friend.

*frowns at him and then gives him a hug...
I have a true story for you, told to me by a pilot. His counterpart in the cockpit told him that he felt his number was up, and that he couldn't shake the feeling. He replied, motioning to all the passengers in the back, then you believe their numbers are up too?
Nothing happened and they landed safely.
You and I will be sharing many and many more holidays Bear.
*hugs him again....

I thank you Vixy for the optimism, but it's a feeling I've had for some time now, and it's just getting more noticeable as each day passes. I've talked to my doc who said that there is nothing wrong, but I still can't shake the feeling. I do hope you';re right, and I can spend many more holidays with my friend (you), and not have to look back at this as if it was some sort of Notradamis effect.
Your friendship is the world to me. ***HUGE HUGS***
