I'm thankful for horsey hugs. Here's me with my 4 year old filly, Malaya. She's awesome.

I never thought that prey animals like being hugged, as they feel trapped. But horses don't seem to mind at all. The ones that live near me don't mind it either. Have a great day. :D

Hugging is not a natural behavior for horses. I had to train her to do this, but now she offers me hugs on her own because she knows that I really like them. Sometimes she tries to hug me to get out of having to do work when I'm training her, which I don't let her get away with. Horses are really smart. Humans have to be smarter.

The gypsy vanners up on the common (where I sometimes walk) like hugs, but they also like biting. Not hard of course...well...it's not hard as far as THEY are concerned. :D

There's a really big smile on my face too. It's not obvious in the photo, but she has her chin locked over my shoulder and is pulling me into her. Horse hugs are awesome therapy. ^_^

I have to disagree with the opening statement of hugging. (Points to the first comment) ... My horses have never minded the hugs, and in fact, seek them out whenever I'm in the pasture. Sometimes I get mugged by two or three horses, vying for my attention.

Yeah, sometimes you gotta be careful. Too much love may not kill you, but it can certainly bruise.

My guys love being hugged. Especially my main man Dreamer. I swear he has the affectionate qualities of a Human. He'd give me a back rub and ask me how my day was if he could.

When they pull you in with their chin it always, always gives me goosebumps.

I also really like it when my horses come over to me and doze off. It shows me that they have enough trust/faith in me to actually fall asleep because they know i don't let bad things happen around them.

Horses are the most rewarding animal i've ever personally worked with.

Hehe, getting pulled in by the chin is Malaya's way of saying, "Yeah, I'll give you a hug, but I'm too lazy to take one extra step to reach you, so I'll just drag you to me instead." It is pretty cool, but it is potentially a hint of disrespect. It depends on the circumstances. Nevertheless, a strong horse hug does wonders for me. I can feel my blood pressure dropping instantly as an inner calm takes over.
