Thanks!! The lighting was ... very experimental. And I liked it while in the process of painting, but in the end I was discouraged. I dunno why. I dunno what to think right now :^0 Maybe I have to look back in a week or two and then I'll know if this was a successful experiment or not, haha.
Your welcome. The lighting on the character is great. Maybe it seems off to you because of the background.
Could be cause there isn't anything expressing where the light is coming from, or the source of light is overshadowed or weakened by the bright background.
It may be something like that. But I'm not very good with colors, I still have a ways to go. I want to learn how to paint digitally too. I'm not too sure where to start. <:X

Hm, that's possible! The sun comes pretty strong from the side, maybe it should have been a bit brighter even? Or something that casts a shadow in the background for a better contrast? :^S I'll look at some photos for next time.
Ohhh I know that feel, FudgySeal! I have no idea where to start!? It took me ages just to get "into" it. The first paintigns (dozens of them!!) are the hardest and I was discouraged too fast when I started and so I put it off for years (and worked with watercolors in the meantime).
Hm. Usually I say, well, look at the paintings you like and make them your aim sorta? And pratice what could bring you there.
Or, I personally really like Istrebrak's videos and what she has to say about studying, references ... and the whole painting process.
If you have specific question, just ask away and we'll see if I can help :^)

I'm not too sure though, I'm still new to intense lighting like that.
Haha, even basic lighting gets me at times.
I have been wanting to do painting style digital art for a long time now.
I'm just never to sure where to start though.
I gotta find the art that inspired me.
I gotta say, your's does a good job at inspiring me as well.
Any tips you may have, I am definitely open to them.
I appreciate you being willing to help as well. C:>

Basic lighting just acts all easy and innocent, and then it'll bite your butt!!
Just don't let yourself be discouraged that you find it hard, it's not just you, it's always hard. But it gets easier over time!
Hm, okay, I thought about videos again and pondered about a few things that might be a good start. First off, this gem: "Why your drawings suck" xD There she (Istebrak) breaks down what painting essentially is and how to think about what you do.
And then there are form studies, like in this video or this. And ... yes they are *super* basic and can be boring (depending on your mindset, but tbh they are pretty boring to me) BUT they are a very fast way to get a good grip on a few essentials and you'll have them down shortly and never need to worry about them anymore!! You can spare yourself from a lot of struggling later on with them.
And for colors, I learned a lot about color theory and whatnot, but I could never put it to paper, until I found this tutorial here. Handsdown the best, in my opinion. And after that it kinda clicked!? Yeah, that was something ... I hope it can help you too in some way! And I hope you're having fun with it :^D
