We see here a glimpse of the Realm betwixt the spheres of the Living and the Great Light of the Beyond. Lost and frightened shades, shadows, specters and all manner of living Dead fill this space created by the expectations, fears, hopes and horrors of the Living. It’s substance is ephemeral and barely sensed from the vantage of the living, but once across the veil the opposite becomes true. Here, the Realms of the Livng are ghostly images and the rot and earth and cold of this place is the real.

There are many entities that can move betwixt the Realms and amongst them the spirits of the dead that haunt or curse spaces in the Realms of Life, or creatures such as the most ancient of vampires or entities composed of the very substance of Death such as the Reapers or the Avatar of Azrael and other “gods” of death that draw their power from this place or places like it.

Of these one of the greatest and most terrible is the entity known as Marcaellus, or “The Lord of the Dead.” This being is ancient past all knowledge except that of Azrael itself or the most ancient of the little “gods” of Death. It is the entity that brought vampires into existence, it has commanded whole armies of the dead in the desolation of realities. Here we glimpse it feeding directly on the souls of the dead, devouring and using them to fuel its power.
