Another re-upload of one of my old costume shop/second identity stories from a decade ago. This thing is *absurdly* long, so if you want to read the whole thing you'll have to read the PDF. I've posted the first few pages below.
I couldn't help but cringe as I read this story while I was giving it an editing pass. Reading your old work is painful! Since a lot of people liked these old stories I guess I'll just bear with it. :)
This story was done in collaboration with my friend Valant, and the mewtwo character in the story belongs to him. Mewtwo itself belongs to Nintendo of course.
Aside from that, the story setting and Drethan belongs to me.
After checking again that no one else was home, Carlos slipped in the front door and made his way to his room the package in tow. His parents were supposed to be out tonight, but he didn’t want to take any chances. Upon making it to his room he shut the door and closed the blinds. He had been waiting for what seemed like an eternity for his costume to come in, and he didn’t want anyone who might tease him for getting a something based on a ‘kid’s game’ disturbing him while he tried it on.
This wasn’t just any costume that he had gotten; this was a custom one that he commissioned from a great costume shop that he found. It was supposed to be designed to match his Mewtwo internet persona. For years he had been fascinated with that Pokemon character, and had often imagined what it would be like to be one. After a while, he modified the original Pokemon into what was now his internet persona, Valant. Finally getting a costume based on Valant was like a dream come true.
Carlos carefully opened the package, pulled out the mass of yellow and blue rubbery material, and let it unfold to the floor. Even though it was only partially unfolded, he could tell that it was practically perfect. The costume looked like a blue Mewtwo, with a large yellow tail and yellow stripes on its arms and legs. There was some yellow hair on the costume’s head, but not so much that he wouldn’t be able to add his trademark cap later. Except for the large stuffed tail, the costume looked like an empty skin, and a surprisingly realistic one at that.
Actually, now that he thought about it, perhaps it was a bit too realistic. The costume looked like it might end up being difficult to wear, it seemed like the old man who had made it stuck a little too close to the design in his pictures. The tail was even designed to mimic a Mewtwo’s tail a little too closely. A Mewtwo’s tail wasn’t like a normal tail; instead of extending from the spine it had a large, dome-like part that started at the waist and went down between the legs and continued on into the tail. How was he supposed to walk around like that? Plus, the feet and gloves didn’t look like they would fit him very well. He didn’t see how those large two toed feet would fit properly.
After inspecting the costume a little more, Carlos decided that he would only know if it would really fit if he tried it on. Remembering that he had been told to wear only light clothes under the suit, he stripped down to his shorts. Then he sat down on his bed, opened the slit along the front of the costume, and stuck his feet though and down into the leggings. His legs in easily enough, and reached the footings without a problem.
As he had expected however, the tail wouldn’t fit in between his legs very well. Carlos stood up and forcibly pulled the costume up to his waist. After a few moments of fiddling with it, he found that there didn’t seem to be any way for it to fit properly; he’d look like an idiot walking around in the thing. He figured that he would have to just take it back to the old man and demand that he make a new one that a human could actually wear. He couldn’t help begin feeling horribly disappointed.
As he pondered this, Carlos suddenly felt an odd tingle go through his lower body, and decided that he’d better just take the suit off. He pulled down on the material, but was startled to find that it wouldn’t budge. It had tightened around his waist and legs, and now it seemed stuck. Suddenly, he realized that the costume was getting even tighter around him, and a yellow glow as enveloping it. Carlos gasped, recognizing the glow as what he had always imagined Valant’s psychic energy to look like, but how was that possible?
In a sudden panic he tried to rip the costume off but not only would it not budge, but it was restraining him somehow, making it difficult to move his legs. Then he felt something moving up his back. He twisted around to see that the rest of the costume was seemingly coming to life was crawling up on top of him! To make things worse, the glowing energy around the costume didn’t seem to just be for show; he could swear that the costume starting to lift him up off of the ground!
Carlos cried out for help as he reached back and tried to stop the thing from closing around him. However, the more he tried to fight off the advancing material, the more tangled his arms seemed to get, and soon he realized that the costume had somehow wrapped its arms around his. He tried to pull his arms away, but the costume had already started sealing around them.
As he tried free his arms, he felt a strange sensation where the costume’s tail had been tightening against him. He gasped as he felt his shorts seem to get absorbed into the suit, and then he felt what could only be described as the material ‘melting’ into his skin. A sudden shock like a bolt of lightning went up his spine as the tail fused onto it, causing him cry out in surprise.
As he recovered from the shock, he realized that he could actually feel the costume’s tail! Not believing what he was feeling, he fought against the stuff restraining his arm until he finally reached down and felt the tail with a three finger gloved hand. It felt so, real and alive. For a second he thought about how much he had always wanted to have a Mewtwo’s tail. Was he actually going to become a Mewtwo? Or maybe even his persona, Valant? His fear about what was happening to him won though, and he went back to trying to free himself from the ‘costume’.
The psychic glow around the costume was getting stronger. Carlos screamed for help again as he felt himself get lifted up higher into the air and suspended as the transformation continued, but no one could hear him. In addition, strange sensations started going through body. He looked at an arm and stared open mouthed as he saw the formally loose material of the costume grow taut as his arms thickened to fit it and his fingers fused together to match the three fingered gloves. He could feel his legs shifting as well; his feet lengthened and his toes fused together to fit themselves into the costume’s two feet. In addition, he felt his hips popping and grinding as they were repositioned around his tail. He felt the material fusing with his skin, on his arms and legs, and soon all over his body.
Within moments it had fused to his entire body except for his head, and he could barely move at all. Then the mask spread around his head from behind and sealed around him. It quickly became hard for him to breath, and he fought with everything he had left to pull it back off but couldn’t even reach up to his head. Before long he could feel his face shifting to fit the mask as well. As it fused with him he opened his mouth and gasped for air, not realizing that the transformation was just finishing.
Suddenly, the energy that was holding him weakened and he grunted as he dropped onto the floor. For a few moments he laid there stunned from the transformation and the fall, before he slowly stirred and inspected himself, unsure if he should be afraid of what he was going to find.
Carlos gasped as he inspected himself; he looked exactly like Valant now, even down to the finest detail. He tested his body, flexing his arms, legs, and tail. It was odd, he could control his movements now…but it was awkward. It was pretty different from moving a human body, especially with the tail. It was a strange feeling; he had been wondering what a Mewtwo’s body it would feel like for years.
One other thing that he still didn’t seem to have any control over was Valant’s psychic powers; some energy was still surrounding him. He could somehow feel the powers, but it felt as if something else was controlling them. What could it be? He supposed that it could be the ‘costume’; it did seem to have a mind of its own. What was it going to do with him though? What if it invaded his mind and took over? If it was psychic, it probably had the power to control him!
Instead of something invading his mind however, Carlos felt a presence calling to him instead. Or was it calling to part of him? Something familiar. He tried to resist, but regardless he started to feel dizzy. It was difficult to think.
Little did he know, the essence of the costume was calling out the aspects of deep within his mind that made up Valant. Slowly, those subconscious parts of himself became dominant and his human self was buried underneath. His confused mind slowly started to clear, but he felt different.
Valant shook his head and took control of his powers. What had just happened to him? He examined his fully transformed body. For a confusing moment he realized that he was thinking of this, rather than his human form, as his normal form. What had that costume done to him? He was thinking of himself as Valant, but he knew that he really was Carlos. Valant was supposed to just be an imaginary persona.
He forced himself to calm down and examine the situation. What he did know was that he was supposed to be human, as odd as that thought sounded to him now. That costume had apparently turned him into…himself. He inspected his body and found that there didn’t seem to be any sign of seams. In fact, his skin seemed real, the thing had apparently merged with him and turned into real Mewtwo skin somehow. It felt exactly the way it should be…or was it how he had imagined that it should be? He wasn’t sure.
So, he had been turned into Valant and was apparently thinking like him as well. It was odd…he had wanted to be like this for so long, but since he was *thinking* like Valant now he wasn’t sure if he should be overjoyed at being a Mewtwo or not since it felt…ordinary. Using his psychic powers, he probed his own mind and found that most of his human self laid dormant deep within himself. Part of him was relieved to find it, another part was disturbed at the thought that he was supposed to be that person, not the Pokemon that he was now.
He also sensed that something was holding his current mind in the conscious world. He assumed that it was probably the costume, since he could sense that it had a mind of its own. However, it seemed as if it had fused itself to his mind in the process of transforming him. It felt…happy, as if it was in the process of getting something that it had greatly desired. What was it getting from him that it needed so badly and why did it have to do this to him to get it?
As he thought more about what had happened to him, he was further disturbed to realize that in a way he might not truly be ‘Valant’, since that being was just a creation of Carols’ imagination. Was he just a cheap imitation or an illusion? Then again, he had been drawn out of the young man’s mind, if there was any place where he truly existed in it was there. That didn’t help much though.
He pushed away those disturbing thoughts and decided that it would be best to make sure that he had all of the abilities that he was supposed to. He spread his psychic energies across his room, and slowly lifted himself and almost everything around him into the air and held them there. When he realized what he was doing he almost started laughing, he had wanted to try that for so long…what? His focus broke and he almost dropped everything. After calming himself down he carefully lowered everything. It was odd, he felt like this power was perfectly ordinary for him, but he felt so happy that he was like this now at the same time.
Then as he continued experimenting with his senses he realized that something was watching him. He psychically probed around the room and saw that someone was using some sort of power to observe him from far away. Someone familiar…but who was it?
The shopkeeper! Valant said to himself as he finally remembered, or at least he meant to, but found himself literally thinking out loud instead.
Of course, that eccentric old costume maker that he got this suit from had done this to him! Valant wasn’t sure if he wanted to thank the old man or shake him. Sure this transformation was a gift in a way. He had wanted this for years when he was human, but the fact that it had been forced upon him disturbed him. What if he couldn’t go back? Would he even want to?
Using his psychic powers, Valant followed the old man’s energy until he found that it had reached the shop that he had picked the costume up from earlier that day. He tried to probe deeper into the shop, but found his mind being repelled by some sort of barrier. Valant wasn’t familiar with the sort of power behind it, but he guessed that it might be magical. Under normal circumstances he wouldn’t have believed in magic, but there weren’t many other explanations for what that costume had done to Carlos. Whoever this old man was, he certainly wasn’t an ordinary costume maker.
Valant stopped in shock as he realized that he had just thought of his human self as a different person. What was happening to him?

Too long story? Too short you mean!
It's so well developed that I definitively want to know what happens after that! Will they find a solution? could one stay more conscious while the other is in command to allow them to learn/control their psychic powers? You left them in a pinch and I'm dying to read if they get out of it!
Really great work!

Oh...my...gosh!
This story is just...so perfect. It touches and examines and exeriments with so many aspects that are often glanced over in such settings. I truly love the conundrum about Carlos' and Vallant's double-being. They are kinda the same person, having the same memories and all, yet their behavior, their character are different. So can we even see them truly as different characters? Such good valid questions. And also....what a cliffhanger! I would so truly love to see where this could all lead to. I could even kind of imagine that their personality gets...split maybe? That Vallant splices off of Carlos' mind and gets fused with the costume, yet they stil retain the ability to merge and bond together? Just a wild idea there.
Please keep making such amazing stories!
