Brewery: homebrew gift
Name: K. Emory’s AnimeNebraskon 2018 Mead
Style: Mead
Origin: Nebraska
Bottle: 12 oz
ABV: ????
Appearance: a honey shade of gold. Well it is a Mead after all.
Pours: N/A no carbonation to worry about.
Smell: honey obviously. In the bottle the notes of flowers and grasses are deep and mellow. Allowed to breathe in the glass they take on a lighter, sharper almost citrusy aspect
Taste: a delightful play of sharp lemongrass and low-key easy-going floral notes all enveloped and swirled in the most exquisite honey. Normally I like to suggest a music style to listen to whilst enjoying a beverage, but this one is quite close to being literally music, but if I had to choose I’d suggest some uplifting Vivaldi or circa 1967 Beatles(Sgt. Pepper’s, White Album). It almost skirts the edge of Ode to Joy territory.
Mouthfeel: comes in mellow and honey sweet smooth, and leaves with a playful sharp sting of vibrant flavor. Alcohol vapors can be felt on the breath but I’m not really noticing any in the liquid itself.
Rating: 9.4 I’ve a warm, languid, euphorically uplifting feeling right now, and I am so, so glad, so grateful this has come into my life. This isn’t the alcohol talking I’ve only had maybe 3 ounces, it’s the feeling you get when you have something of exceptionally top quality that is a once-in-lifetime rarity. You know major cosmic events had to coincide to make this occur, and that some deity somewhere felt you deserved something of theirs in your life.
When it is gone I may be found smiling gently at some time in the future for no apparent reason. If I am seen like this I’m probably just recalling the mead I had that one early Spring evening.
