After waking at around 6, willing myself back to sleep, and waking again at around 8, Soba and I headed down to the Mizzen for breakfast. Enquiring about the 10% discount, a different waiter to the one I had yesterday told us that we needed our badges for the discount, so that was unfortunate. Still, it didn’t stop me from enjoying a hearty helping of blueberry pancakes with maple syrup and bacon on the side (big meal 1 of the day).
Breakfast complete, my roommate went to move his car and register while I headed to the Dealers’ Den, and chatted some more with the artists and attendees. It wasn’t until today that I realised
was dealing, and so I popped by to say hello, and ordered a very cool piece of con roommate art from her. Hearing that
would not arrive until today, I stopped by her desk and had a nice catch-up. I also had a fun conversation with Shiro about a UPS delivery that had gone HORRIBLY wrong (one of those stories that makes you laugh while facepalming and shaking your head). I was while I was chatting with Gideon that a tap came to my shoulder. It was Soba, who promptly invited me for lunch with Shenanigan, as we had done at last year’s convention (and from which came a truly delightful picture). We headed for the hotel restaurant, where I finished off big meal 2 of the day.
Into the afternoon, and I decided head down to the art show with by pal
to take a look at some of the items being auctioned off for the charity. I was unable to accompany him for long, but it was a good catch up, I thought. I then proceeded to wonder around the Dealers’ Den some more until closing time, and headed back to my room with a decent collection of art and goodies, and thought that a walk through the early-evening air would be nice. My roommate returned just as I left, and out I went in a shirt and jeans. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, I am insane (though undiagnosed… ^__^). However, the temperature wasn’t all that bad, with only a little bit of snow falling, and I walked all the way to the Hilton where I saw this fascinating statue (pictured). I have since discovered that it is the South African War Memorial, built in 1910 to commemorate Canada’s role and servicemen lost in the Boer Wars.
With the temperature dropping, it was high time for me to get back to the hotel, where I found my roommate in the room. Deciding that a dinner of steak (which I owed him for getting me a job (long story)) would be rather much for that evening, we headed down to the Oyshi Sushi restaurant just across the street from the convention centre. The food was very well priced, and rather tastier than I remember it from 2017, and I proceeded to have big meal 3 of the day. Soba reckons I have hollow legs. I am inclined to agree. :P
Back at the hotel, I decided to head out to the Canine Meet & Greet panel, hosted annually by
and Soot. This event is well-timed to take place just before the Midnight Howl, but also timed when many parties are going on, so it becomes a small and close-knit event. I met some fine people, and while I am ashamed to say that I have forgotten their names, they were a pleasure to meet, and I wish them the very best with their plans going forward! One really does meet some great characters at these events. The witching hour rolled around, and after a fascinating tale about the Moon from Kindle, we headed out to the balcony. Well, when I saw “we”, I split off and went to the elevators; I like to think that I have a reputation of being a good roommate (though the truth may not be the case), and I make getting in at a reasonable time part of that. I made it back to the room in good order, and thankfully didn’t disturb my roommate. I fell soundly asleep shortly after getting in.
Plenty happening so far! Stay tuned to see the conclusion of the con, and my short trip to Canada. Hope you enjoy!
TL;DR – Woke up and went for breakfast in Mizzen. Headed for Dealers’ Den while Soba went to reposition his car. Wondered around Dealers’ Den for a bit, went for lunch with Soba and Shenanigan as per last year. Back to Dealers’ Den before going to art show. Met some friends, great catch-ups all round. Went to Oyshi Sushi with roommate, then returned to convention centre for Canine Meet-and-Greet. Bed around midnight.
