My boyfriend has been bingeing ALL 8 SEASONS of the Vampire Diaries, so I guess I've had vampires on the brain lately. I used to love vampires when I was a teenager, but while I still enjoy them, I've kind of outgrown the lithe, pretty-boy teen blood sucker aesthetic. However in the back of my mind, for a few years, I've been chewing over a vampire story that breaks these stereotypes. Instead of a wealthy, mysterious business man, he'd run a late-night auto-mechanic shop somewhere in the country. Instead of being thin, with elegant features and perfectly groomed hair and fingernails, he'd be a little thick around the mid-section and often covered in grease stains. Instead of names like Damien and Vladimir, he'd have a much more conventional name like Steve or Robert. So maybe not the gothic-romantic heart throb, but very manly, sweet-natured, and honest. So basically what 30-something me would want in a vampire boyfriend, lol!

I decided to do a quick sketch of him and his human girlfriend. I pictured her as looking more "vampire-like" than him, which would be a source of confusion and humor in the story. I imagined a scenario in which a vampire hunter, of some sort, would accidentally confuse her as the resident vampire instead of Rob.

I can't really start another full project at the moment, but if you guys like the story, I'll draw more concept art.
