An easy way to find cool shade on a hot day is to find a moderately dense forest. Chances are that if there’s nothing growing on the forest floor, then no sunlight is getting through to sustain the plant life below the trees, and so no sunlight will reach you. If it’s humid, however, then jolly good luck to you. :P

It was not until recently that I learned that most of the trees growing throughout this valley are purposely planted for farming wood. In recent times, the trees have been removed to create carbon-neutral wooden pellets to sustain a biofuel power plant down the valley, and though the hillsides look bare and barren without the dense, deep green forests, it is nice to see that they are already being replanted. This is one part of the old forest that has survived, however, and some of the trees seem to have grown beyond the capacity of the earth to hold them. Go home trees; you’re drunk.
