I hear that the devs originally intended to include a hunger mechanic in the game, but scrapped the idea last minute. Unfortunately it's still in the code that you are carrying a sandwich in a backpack, a sandwich that you were supposed to be able to throw for a distraction, and these little cuties aren't the only ones chasing you for it.
