You know, the engines not being used anymore things doesn't really make sense. Even if no vacationers came to sodor, they'd still have local/express trains AND goods trains, so they would've been fine. The airport was only being built for the convenience of vacationers, but it didn't matter because the airport was literally never brought up again after this special.
