4 various inks on 9" x 12" Strathmore Tan Toned paper, 2017. This was inspired by and completed during my Iceland journey this summer, specifically Thórsmörk (literally "Thor's Forest"). After a long and difficult four days of hiking, arriving sore-footed in this stunningly gorgeous greenery took my breath away. The low, expressive trees were perfect for envisioning my birdfolk being connected to and posed among.
Introducing multiple ink colors in this technique was a new move for me and I proceeded carefully through the piece as such, but I'm so so happy with the result. I love how introducing the additional hues allowed me to play more with lost edges in the foliage patterning. As detailed and precise as these pieces are, the places where they teach me the most is in learning when elements need to be grounded or left floating.
