Ruben met Wendy at the library where she worked. The semi-feral Kangaroo took notice of the Kanaroo-donkey right away the first time he saw her. She was a hybrid like himself, but far more anthro. At first his thoughts didn't move beyond thinking she was cute. As he gradually interacted with her, he came to like her and her personality. Wendy soon began to feel the same way about Ruben and would adjust what she was doing when he was in the library so she would have a higher chance of interacting with him. This wasn't difficult, Ruben was frequently looking for old photographs from the archive to use as part of his photography work.

This back and forth of the two trying to spend time with the other, without being overt about it, finally blossomed into a relationship when Ruben decided to ask her out on a date. He normally would write his archive requests down on a piece of paper and give them to Wendy. All he would have to do is write a note asking her out and hand it to her.

The next time he was at the library, he sought out Wendy. She of course didn't make it hard for him to find her. Handing her his note, she stared at it for a bit. Ruben kept a cool external demeanor while inside he was anxious as to what her reply would be. He soon got an answer in the form of Wendy wrapping her arms around him and giving him a long and sensual kiss. His anxiety turned instantly to a stunned euphoria as he let her pull him close.

Their relationship had its usual ups and downs, but as time passed both of them became ever more sure that that the other was that special someone they had been looking for.
