The Conciens are an amphibious race thriving in the waters of Metatanoia, and are usually found in medium-sized colonies. Though most of the Concien population exists in Metatanoia's oceans, some migrate inland and settle down in large rivers and lakes. These inland colonies are usually forced out of the water during winter, when most lakes and other bodies of water freeze over.

-General Behavior and Characteristics-
The Conciens are scavengers, and will adorn themselves with anything they find that tickles their fancy. Though some trinkets they find are inconvenient, if there is a will, they find a way, and will even go through physical pain to keep the item in their possession.

Conciens' bodies are more compact compared to humans, making their bodies look odd compared to their arms and legs. Their fairly wide faces, along with tongues that fly from their mouths to snatch fish, a stubby tail, and webbing in between their fingers (one of which that has bent the opposite way as the others in order to form a fin along the back of the arm) and toes, leave most human observers to believe they are distant relatives to native frogs of the planet. The Conciens' long ears still baffle observers, however, as none can find out exactly how they benefit the race. One observer has also recently noted that no Cincien has eyebrows.

-Gender-specific Characteristics-
It has noticed that males are the only ones of the race that sport claws, and, instead of growing normal heads of hair like females, grow thick manes, that are generally two colors, and on rare occasions, three. It is believed that these manes are what attract females.
