Marina Solis had always been something of a rebel against her stuck-up, aristocratic family. Keying cop cars and tagging walls were her teenage pastime. Anything to spit in the eye of authority, really. So when the sister she loved more than anyone else in the entire world went and joined the military, the purest symbol of fascism and oppression in her eyes, it was the ultimate betrayal. She ran away from home, and jumped onto the first starship heading Anywhere But Here.
She never imagined she'd have the bad luck to accidentally crew up with pirates. With the planet Solont shrinking into a tiny blue dot in the distance, the pirates put Marina to work on her hands and knees, scrubbing engine coils and polishing grav plating. But what at first seemed like being shanghai'd into a life of servitude was, in fact, a blessing in disguise. Not only did Marina have a talent for starship maintenance, but she quickly discovered she had a knack for leadership and initiative, and more than a fair bit of charisma to boot. It wasn't long before the crew started asking her thoughts when planning a raid. By the end of her second year aboard, she was trusted with a gun and joined the boarding party for cruise ship robberies. By the end of her fifth year, they called her Captain.
10 years on, and she'd united a disorganized bunch of rebels, rogues, thieves, and misfits into a proper Pirate Kingdom. Calling themselves the Shade Pirates, Marina ruled over an outlaw paradise in space, where the rule of the day was Honor Among Thieves, and the only true calling was a life of swashbuckling adventure on the Starry Black Seas!
When she's not robbing cruise liners or abducting rich debutantes to ransom back to their husbands, Marina revels in her life as a pirate, singing drunken sea shanties with her mates, or unwinding by taking apart and tuning up a Class 5 fusion drive. She's happier than she ever imagined she would be as a child. To her, the life of a pirate is one big game, a cosmic round of Cops 'n Robbers, and she'd be damned to Davy Jones' Locker if she wasn’t going to make sure that everyone, even her victims, were having fun.
It's my vivacious and adventurous character Marina Solis, Space Pirate Queen, sister of Valcione, and general thorn in the side of the Solont Space Force! Yep, she turned out alright after she ran away from home! ^.^
Her look was inspired by the likes of Space Pirate Captain Harlock, but I really owe it to
jeso for his phenomenal design work! He's brought my character to life better than I ever imagined!
