Saw this at 2 hours old. It's been two days now, and I still can't really say why I like it so much. Playing the innocent card is a cute move, I love the way his wings are fanned out and those meaty chest muscles. His friend's got quite the expression, and apparently some interesting art! Both their poses are so natural! They feel like real animals, in spite of the simple colors and slightly toony faces.
I don't know. I guess it's just interesting! And aesthetically and anatomically pleasing. Or maybe their character is what tops this off. I'm just not sure. But I know Dragon Lovers regularly brings me some of the best feral art I know of.

I do love joining realistic looking creatures with cartoony expressions! For me it fits even with more realistic shading. I just goes sow well together... or maybe it's because I really like Disney animations :D
