In the descending darkness of the twilight, a lone doe gracefully stepped through the underbrush, looking for a tasty treat...
A quick rustle of leaves from the canopy above her made her look up, trying to catch sight of what had caused it...
A glint of teeth...
A shimmer of whiskers...
A sparkling green eye...
A single flash of metal marked the doe's end, as the hunter's blade was drawn across the throat she had so foolishly exposed...

wrathofautumn; character and color done by yours truly.
This piece marks a few famous firsts for me:
The first time I've ever made a submission to an art site;
The first time I've commissioned an artist;
The first character I've ever made for a furry RP;
And the first colored work to exist of any character I've created.
Those of you who can see him, say hello to Nightshade! He is a hunter by trade and a fighter by nature, but don't worry; he's already hunted tonight, so you're perfectly safe, and if you have something worth trading, he may even offer you some of his kill for it.
Despite his fearsome appearance and skill, Nightshade is NOT named for the poisonous berry we've all come to know. Rather, he is named for his fur, which as depicted here blends perfectly into the "night's shade".
Adapting the original ink work for coloring took days of patience; I started by tracing over the lines with one color, and filling in the rest with solids of another. As I went through the piece, I also traced over the extra details in a third.
When all that was done, it was a simple matter to use the "filler" tool to pick new colors to add in. I chose to do the "Night" colors first, 'cause it's a more accurate representation of the character.
Because it was done digitally, most if not all of the lines are thinner here than they are in the original work. A few things may also have been unintentionally altered in small ways, because I'm stuck with MS Paint to work with, and don't have much skill for anything more advanced.
Many of the extra details were removed from the original ink during coloring, due to the simple fact you're not likely to see them in the dark of the night, but I've still got the base template prepped for coloring a second time, and a "Daylight" version will follow that will have the extra details intact.
