Now, normal Iolite wouldn't just pick up a small thing and nom 'em, so you're safe if you're small, but even the exaggerated hungry Iolite that noms lil animals would have stopped and wanted to talk instead if he'd just said "Hello" when she picked him up! So if you're small and you feel like you're in danger around her, just talk to her and she'd be excited to have a conversation if you seemed friendly enough

If anyone she new and cared about were shrunk she definitely wouldn't eat 'em, and if something small were to talk to her she probably wouldn't eat it either! She might eat a small human if she was just a few weeks old, but after she was taken care of for a little bit she'd want to be friendly towards other humans, no matter how small :P
