I find it incredibly ironic that it's been about five months since I made my last piece, and five more months before that one. So in five months, am I gonna be interested in drawing something else? I hope it's sooner than that.
Anyway, hello! Between going out, I spent all of today working on this piece, in a bout of surprise inspiration that came about while playing Pokémon SoulSilver version, in which an egg is given to you shortly after beating the Violet City Gym that also hatches into a Togepi. When this happened, I thought that this was great because one of my favorite Pokémon is Togekiss, and I wanted to go through the measures to find where I could go to find a Shiny Stone, but every single one of them pointed out that you had to wait until after you were able to go to Kanto and get the National Pokédex. Honestly though, I get it, the point of HeartGold and SoulSilver is to replicate the experience of Gold, Silver, and Crystal, it wouldn't make sense for Pokémon outside of Generation 1 and 2 to be around yet, but it really does suck for the sake of creating a team.
However, starting with Pokémon Let's Go Eevee late last year, and admitting that I do roleplay alot, I begun taking my team of Pokémon and creating them as characters to use in roleplay. I did that with my Let's Go team first, then I got back into Pokémon Y and did the same for my Kalos team, and now here I am again, at the time of this upload three gyms in, doing it for my Johto team. Eventually I want to try to draw each of them, as almost all of them appear differently than they naturally do, but one step at a time here. Wing was technically first, Rae was second, this guy is third.
Of course, because I've had the tendency of late to imagine species differently than they normally appear, I did the same thing with this Togepi but in a possibly controversial way. This idea for doing it myself stemmed from a tweet by user ururu597. While I was unable to read the text on the image, the take on a Togepi without its shell was fascinating. On top of that, drawing one was surprisingly easy, especially when you know what you need to do, and I actually said something on Twitter regarding it. So after work yesterday, I grabbed my sketchpad and decided to give it a go. It really didn't take me all that long to do but again, Togepi is very easy to draw. This is also probably the first time where the sketch and the base variant that I made, that you can see somewhat faded near the top, look better than the finished product. I felt like this wasn't my best lining and coloring job, mainly around the booties; the original sketch had Togepi's feet so I had to freehand the shoes which looks better on the right than the left. <s>I got a tablet for Christmas, maybe I should try to make use of that.</s>
This egg was originally raised and incubated in the Pokémon Laboratories in Ioa's Pokémon region, the Ké Kingdom. This egg would be transferred to the lab of Professor Elm to be looked after, and to allow him to study the differences of Pokémon from not only another region but another planet. However he also remembered that a strange squishy dinosaur had fairly recently started a journey through Johto, and called him up to let the traveler know that he would entrust him in taking care of the egg and to hatch it. This dinosaur was Kyle as he had begun his romp through Johto right at the start of April. With plenty of room to take him, Kyle didn't get very far with the egg in his possession, mainly wandering up and down Route 32 in search of a Mareep at night (by the way, that's not a good idea) and traveling in and out of Violet City for one reason or another. Just before heading back into Route 32, the egg hatches.
Meet Dot, a male Togepi that hatched on April 5, 2019 right at the Violet City limits, with a Bold nature, and loves to eat. He hatched at Level 1, and as of April 16, 2019 is Level 14. He knows Sweet Kiss, Charm, Extrasensory, and Metronome. His best stat is Defense, with Special Defense one point behind. His ability is Hustle.
Dot right away had a very interesting look to him. While the design of his eggshell was similar to that of a Pure Togepi, his skin color appeared less yellow and more pinky-peach, very similar to the shiny variant of Pure Togepi. Dot, like almost all other Pokémon even at birth, are incredibly intelligent and self-aware, recognizing the squishy dino as his father, and looking to be a friend. However, minutes after hatching, the eggshell began to crack and eventually completely fall apart, leaving the Togepi bare. However, Dot didn't appear to be all that bothered, he continued to waddle along through Route 32 with new friends as if nothing was wrong. It could possibly be how similar he now was to Kyle; after all, their body colors were remarkably similar, and Yoshis, including him, usually don't wear clothes, so Dot just felt included.
Being days old, not much is known about Dot and what he likes and dislikes, but you can almost always see him smile, cheer at almost anything, and loves to play with friends. He seems to be most comfortable around Kyle, his Johto friends, and children, and is often curious about anything he doesn't know about. He cannot speak yet, which does stem to talking to other Pokémon, but he finds that he can remedy this by expression.
Days later, a new discovery was made when Dot was sitting around with Kyle at home, he had lost his balance and fell to the ground, flattening himself temporarily before popping back to normal. Upon further investigation, it was told that Dot's egg originated from the laboratories back in Ioa and sent to Johto, meaning that Dot's physical appearance and properties are altered compared to those found in Johto. It seems that Ioan Pokémon eggs may also borrow attributes from the person that raises them most, due to Ioa's magical makeup. Dot's only experience as a Softie is flattening temporarily, however Kyle wishes to teach him very slowly and ease him into it, as to not make him panic should something happen.
Afterwards, thanks to Kyle's Kanto partner Eevee, Chocolate, who has an interest in fashion and is training in that field, decided to take on a small challenge, and make a couple of accessories for Dot to allow him to accessorize. First, he wears a small red bowtie with a brooch in the center, made of a piece of smoothed Everstone, meaning that Dot will not evolve into Togetic when his friendship is high enough. Second, he has a custom pair of sky blue baby shoes with white undersoles. Both of these together host the colors of Togepi's eggshell that he no longer has.
I didn't expect to want to make someone out of a Togepi, but the more I played with the idea, the more I just started liking it more and more until eventually, this came about. Of course, with a character that has literally been born days ago at the time of this upload, more ideas will flood in as he develops more not only as a member of my Johto team, but around his friends and family; possibly I'll be updating this description as more come in. If anyone is interested in the base, I can try to make it available to you by request. Thanks for looking and reading!
