Aksel Ahv is a monkey from Earth, who takes it upon himself to be a self-styled "adventurer" and "treasure hunter," though many who know him realize that he'll settle for a quick, easy job with any sort of payout. His childhood was rather normal, being brought up by middle-class parents who came from an off-world background. Aksel was a good student throughout his childhood, and realized quite quickly that a desk job wasn't the type of career he was looking for. He enlisted in the Armed Forces at age 19 and served for 2 years, seeing no action but having grown fond of flying various light spacecraft.
Using all the money he had earned from both the military and from his part-time jobs during and after high school, he split a purchase of a rather junky cargo craft that had been outfitted and kitted out to mount various military grade engines and weapons.
