(A bit of a change from the usual concept sketch, as I wanted to include the colors and pattern of this gazelle species)
Long before the founding of Drum Town the Dama gazelle consisted of small nomadic tribes, some still are, but most of them nowadays have moved into the cities to preserve their species as their small numbers were rapidly dwindling in the wasteland due to them being hunted by it's inhabitants for sport or to obtain the lost knowledge they are said to possess. This knowlede is that of modern medicine as we know it but which was all but lost in this new world untill the tribes decided to give up their nomadic ways and settle in the cities to help more people and rebuild society.
A few groups would keep up their nomad ways, scavenging ancient hospitals and libraries for more medical knowledge and equipment that tended to be ignored by other scavengers that had no idea of their value, and one such group were Chimwemwe and Fwasani's ancestors. Their group had been corned in some ruins by a group of raiders and captured but as they were being trasported to the raider base they ran into a herd of zebra who chased off the raiders and freed the gazelles who pledged their loyalty to the zebras. the two groups eventually settled in a place that would come to be known as Drum Town and together they allowed the place to thrive in part thanks to the medical knowledge of the Dama increasign survival rates from sickness and injury.
Being indebted to the zebra the Dama would select a few young people to directly serve the zebra herd leaders and take up the role of healer, both physical and spiritual, and as teachers of other forgotten knowledge. And this is how Fwasani and Chimwemwe came to serve Jehlani when she had to pick up the mantle of leadership for Drum Town. There were more of them but they were killed during the time the lions occupied Drum Town, and to honor them Jehlani wears their horns in her mane.
So here you see them today, with Fwasani wearign their traditional nomad garb, (which is actually a modified beaded car seat cover) and Cimwemwe showing the informal clothing they wear indoors when not on public duty. the inside of the "poncho" contains many small pockets for medical supplies and tools as well as some personal belongings. Not shown here are the wicker backpacks traditionally used by the tribe when scavanging and which contain enough materials to set up a crude field hospital where emergency surgery can be performed.
