From my rotting body,
flowers shall grow and I am in them,
and that is eternity."
~ Edvard Munch I realize this is quite different than what you're used to seeing me post, but the truth is one cannot love nature without acknowledging that her eternal law is Balance. There can be no life without death, no light without shadow, and no rainbow without a storm. A fire can blacken the forest and leave nothing but ash in it's wake, and still new life will find a way to rise from the destruction. Nature sets this law in motion again and again, a continuous cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
I mainly tend to focus my art on the life aspect - things that grow and thrive and give the world immeasurable beauty. Those are my personal motivation to create. But, when I was approached with this idea I simply couldn't resist the chance to show that even in death, all things are beautifully connected.
This is a commission for
and though it may be hard to tell, that's her character Glowstickk among all the flowers. She originally asked for cherry blossoms and daisies, but once I started sketching we decided to add a few more flowers - Bitterroot, Magnolia, and Cherokee Rose, the state flowers for Montana, Louisiana, and Georgia respectively. She also wears a small alligator jawbone on a chain around her neck, which is actually modeled after one she owns in real life. :) This was a fun little adventure outside my usual realm and honestly, I wouldn't mind doing more stuff like this (I've wanted to try my hand at fusing anatomy with plantlife lately anyway so this was a good excuse to test the concept). April commissions are now closed, but I do have two slots remaining on this month's themed YCH "Woodland Secrets", you can find that info here: www.furaffinity.net/view/31089148/
