It was a very recent discovery!
Turns out the spiral teeth were located in the back of the jaw and the primary food of the shark was squid and the setup of teeth was perfect for quickly swimming in, slicing the squid into pieces, then picking up the sliced off parts. They went extinct because they basically ONLY could survive off of squid and when the numbers of squid dropped, the sharks couldn't stay sustained.
