The Elegance of Engineering
When it comes to forms and shapes, Mother Nature is undeniably the greatest engineer ever. Evolution gifted both species of common dolphins a perfect body for high-speed movements. Bullet-like bodies allow them to reach the speed up to 60 km/h, making them the fastest marine mammal in the ocean. Not only the efficiency, but also the elegance of the natural engineering, are the reasons why dolphins are such fascinating and exquisite creatures.

This drawing is the first Echo of the Ocean. It might sound confusing, I know, but in fact it is the first drawing of my personal project, the temporary name of which is "Echoes of the Ocean". I'll be making digital drawings of cetaceans, one for each species, to share their uniqueness with the world, improve my art skills, and, perhaps, to inspire other to get to know more about various whales and dolphins. I currently have 30 concepts ready for further work, a few of them are already in process. The drawings will not be of "scientific" character, but rather expressing my own vision as an artist. I will also try to get rid of my chronic perfectionism-syndrome, so if the process starts to feel like a burden, I'll consider it to be finished (nothing stops me from improving it later anyway).

So let this Long-Beaked Common Dolphin (Delphinus capensis) be the first one of the lot.
This drawing is up on my RedBubble and available in many forms, including prints! :)
