And here we go. The monster herself: Mort's mother.
Back when I first drew this gal, she wasn't actually relevant to the DTH story line outside of being a figure from the past that shaped how fucked up Mort ended up. Now she's featuring in a side comic! How times change! :D
She may look like a cute lap dog, with those fluffy ear tassels but this lady is the one who had the idea to go from lowly fire demon to fire goddess with terror, blood and flames.
She had four children... key word being 'had'.
She wasn't always 100% sane, and had fits of horrible mood swings, and memory loss.
(The side comic is available for $10 Patreon supporters atm. I will likely be posting it publicly between chapters of the main comic, possibly 3 and 4, or maybe a little later.)

Yeah. She's got plenty of animal cunning, but a distinct lack of empathy toward anything. Mort's a sociopath. She's a full blown psychopath.
I often say that while Mort and his bluster was something Arch figured he could work with, Serefine is one monster he would not mess with. Ever. Some monsters are just too dangerous.

More than you could possibly imagine. Mort's a grumpy old hermit that enjoys the occasional breakfast in bed. She's an insane tatarigami (rage god) that will burn your village and devour your children because she got up on the wrong side of the nest that morning. Leaving her tribute and human sacrifices MAY protect your village... but then again, it may not.
