This deity of the Sun is Tawa the Lord of the light, giver of life. In the background story of Tamias the Chipmunk, Tawa is the center of the Chipmunk Religion known as the Divine Destiny. When Hokooji, the chipmunk who cast his vote for day, was slain by the Bear, Tawa restored the chipmunk's life as reward for boldly casting the vote that brought the light of day to the world. In gratitude Hakooji promised Tawa that all chipmunks would be the guardians of the light ensuring the Sun would rise and set unhindered by those who thurst for darkness.

Tawa is seen by chipmunks as their guide and stay. Tawa fills this roll as he enters Tamias's dreams to guide and assure him through internal struggles.

Tawa of Tamias's back story is loosely based on the Hopi Sun Kachina of the same name.
