After so many tries over the years, Sterling Bengtzing has finally conquered the Slam Dunk Contest in the 2019 edition of the All-Star Week in the FBA!
Follow the journey, starting from the top left sketch, counter-clockwise:
First Round:
Sterling and his fellow teammate of the Voodoo death duo, Derek Kim, prepare to take the shot, seemingly as the sharpshooting point guard will pass to the polecat in some point of the dunk for him to sink it in.
But then, Derek asks for one of the judges' phones, opening the camera and taking a video with the front camera, aimed to his face and the hoop, Sterling focused at the rim. The kkachi takes the whole scene in the frame, staring at the camera and screen as he aligns his passing arm. Once he finds the proper spot, he passes the ball towards Sterling's direction, who snatches it and sinks it in a thunderous windmill.
(Score: 42 points. 4th place: Advances to semifinals)
-
Semifinal Round:
Sterling whistles loudly and calls for two portable hoops that are being rolled in, the boards much smaller than normal, styled with chains as if they were streetball ones you'd find at the park, placed apart of each other about the wingspan of the polecat's arms extended, a little less.
Andrius Vilkasaitis sits in the middle of them, ball on paw. Sterling starts bouncing one of his own, sprinting towards the middle of the hoops. As he jumped, Andrius feeds him the second ball to his free paw as he extends his arms in a T figure, sinking both balls in each, holding and hanging from the hoops for a while, even making a bicycle motion with his legs after getting down.
(Score: 41 points: 2nd place. Advances to final)
-
Final Round:
Sterling walks in, a voodoo doll vaguely resembling its rival finalist on hand (this time Winnipeg Voyageurs captain Yves Carbonneau), as Black Sabbath plays. As the lead singer was known to do once, the polecat bites the head off the doll, tossing it to the crowd, for a little souvenir.
The polecat walked towards his teammates, Andrius and Derek, both clad in their Voodoo ensembles, ball in hand, passing it to the wolf. "You know what to do." Sterling nodded as the three took position, with Andrius on the opposite way of Derek and Sterling.
Andrius threw the ball hard against the board, at the same time the mustelid began to sprint to the direction of the post and Derek. The avian caught the ball that the wolf threw, and extended his arm. The polecat jumped high enough to swipe the ball from under him, passing it under his legs and extending his arm to sink the ball, but as he approaches the hoop it's clear he misjudged his speed of the run-up as he looks short, still, Sterling is able to reach far enough to dunk the ball but it's not as loud of a dunk as he intended but he still managed to hang from the hoop nonetheless for some seconds for a show of strength.
(Score: 40 points. Winner)
And on the end, posing with his trophy with his Biloxi Voodoo teammates, who made his redemption possible.
