The Shellder has completely fuzed onto Strad and evolved itself onto him, taking over his mind in the process. The Shellder exist as the armor, capable of lunching heavy water blast and acting like navy ship. Strad makes up the mobile part of the body. His ears act as clams and open underwater to absorb nutrients out of the sea.
As Clamera is actually too heavy to outswim other pokemon, it leaps from underwater platform to platform, and hides in the sand while eating any upwelling nutrients.
