This story first appeared in the RainFurrest 2008 Conbook.
There's an bit of an interesting story behind this story. It was writing as a last minute filler for a different con who's theme was pajama party, but in the end it wasn't needed. Luckily the theme for RainFurrest that year was Flight, so this kind of fit in at the end.
This is still a fun little story and the first thing I ever really had in print. It also features both myself and Rhea, in her first story. I hope everyone enjoys it!

A very interesting story, though I have to admit I probably should have taken a look at earlier ones first. Coming into it the characters already feel like they are well-established. Still the writing style is rather interesting and your characters are fun to read about if a bit confusing. Its nice to see two close friends going for a simple night out and then helping someone in need like that.
Not too much to say beyond that. Its nice to find someone who can write a short dialog driven story that is actually attention grabbing. Look forward to reading some more of it.

I'm going to have to admit, the opening I happened to find amusing. Mainly because it's like giving a commentary about the movie.. (Which I believe is a Bond movie, as the only Lazenby that I can think of is George, and he's known for playing Bond.) A play within a story as it were. That...I have to say is actually quite clever. This and I like how it's a casual opening. Nothing large scale and overdone. No sudden jump into a storyline. It starts with what's normally the end of a quiet evening- I.E: Watching a movie. Makes for an interesting start when the opening is a normal, everyday thing. "Less is more" as it was.
What nice is in this one you also have a set time frame to give the reader an estimate of time of the hour it is. (the line "It's just after midnight" doing it.) It shows that hey..was a catch up between two friends and it ended up going through a good portion of the evening. So much so that the only break to get snacks is roughly a few minutes into the next day. (Which I think everyone's done at least once..)
I also like the very subtle character points you add in. The pants that are only fitted for one tail. Having to ask Rhea is she wants to wear a disguise to not be notice, showing she may be someone well known. How it's added in such a casual manner without a paragraph of exposition is pretty nicely done you know~
Moving along, it then shows... how they end up meeting a gyphon cub. Which comes with a very pliable excuse. Much like a regular bird, the wind caught them and they would just end up in a situation like that. Then Rhea using what resources she had (Which border between magic and not magic as written) to help track down the gryphon's home. Sure it's a bit lengthy, but it shows the effects, the procedure, and seems to give an explanation as to what's being done (Which I believed to be far-sight to some degree.) I liked that as it isn't just an instant fix to the problem. It's a spell/enchantment. It takes a while.
Then with the situation solved the two have a place to camp for the rest of the night. It's a small story but..it's a warm one. That's what makes it rather entertaining to read. Mind you, this was read at 10:22pm on a Sunday in 70+ degree weather, and yet I still found it refreshing. That should tell you something~ :)

I'm glad you liked the story, and you're right, they were watching a Bond movie (in fact Casino Royale, which was the newest at the time).
As for Rhea, it does mention in the story that she's the only vixen on earth. This world doesn't have fox morphs (in fact there very few morphs species). She's actually an honest to goodness alien... who hangs out with the only mage in Seattle, go figure. :)
