Sketch Commission: Big News
Comments are always appreciated :)
Another sketch commission done for
arris
A continuation of the macro Dragon Tales series where the dragon characters find a way to the human world with some "big" side effects.
In this one, we have a bunch of TVs showing news broadcasts of the human's reaction to the "monsters" that have been roaming their world as of late.
Woo boy, this one was a pretty long process. I am just glad that I was able to edit all the different pictures together successfully.

Thanks to
arris for commissioning me yet again :)

The black screen was the joke. The van is in the stomach where there is no light, so nothing can be shown on the camera feed.
And the missing text was supposed to be like that. I wasn't given any headline for that one by the commissioner, and I couldn't think of any.

Things are looking dire for the people as these big scary monsters roam about. I love how this came out! Even the news van still recording in the dark cavern of a stomach without light; nice job building a theme with the pictures from top to bottom. Wonderful work on the faces showing the range of things from Wheezie taking this as seriously as Wheezie can to Cassie being worried that things have gotten out of hand and under foot.
People are probably getting this information on their mobile phones nowadays. But a TV display like this in a store front would probably be attracting a crowd looking for answers back in the day. I wonder what news station I'd be following?
Thank you so much for this!

Indeed. There must be mass panic going on right about now.
The theme with the layout of the pictures was admittedly unintentional, but turned out well that way nonetheless. I did play around with the layout bit with different options, and chose the option that I thought looked the best. Guess I subconsciously chose this one because of the theme.
Yes, "back in the day" is the key phrase here. Considering that Dragon Tales is an older show, I took designs from older models of TVs rather than making them all flatscreens. (Hence the buttons and stuff which, as we discovered, makes them look more like TVs)

I like how clean the line work looks here, especially the top panels. The scale is done well, especially for Cassie, it really shows of her size.
My favorite parts are Wheezie and the "Monster Eats Camera Van" panel, partly because of the situation but also because the way you did the black screen, it looks a bit static-y, which would make sense sine the camera could have been damaged on the way down.
