Interior of the B 29 cockpit. Sure looks familiar.... Ramp tour of the plane was $20, flights started at $600 and went up to $1000 for the prime seat there in the bombadier position. Taken in a couple of years ago at Prescott EA Love Airfield

Thank you very much, Howard! It is fascinating to hear that this machine was the inspiration for the famous spaceship! The glass was just Plexiglass? The people back then sure where tough! I probably would have been really scared to fly around in a aircraft which has such weak armor. I visited a more modern bomber in Switzerland and I was told that it was very strongly armored, with titanium walls and very durable, bulletproof glass (but the Swiss bomber was designed for very high altitudes, if I remember correctly). Howard, I hope that we two never have to serve on such machines!
