Dragons knead stuff when they're happy. It just feels natural, and is usually accompanied by content purring sounds. Don't worry about the sharp claws, we know what we're doing, and as demonstrated by

My cat looooves to knead on me, problem is, he does a terrible job at it and always pulls my skin with his claws! :V Its still cute though because he notices I get increasingy annoyed by it (though maybe he doesnt notice his kneading is the cause of my annoyiance), so he in turn tries to knead even more to try soothe me, but of course it doesnt work XD
