Yeah, I always hated that they wouldn't tell you what's wrong with your password until AFTER you type one.

And then, the standards for one aren't accepted by another.

One will NOT accept special characters, and another requires them.

And the two others which both require special characters don't accept ones the other does.

They claim it's for our protection.

Bullhockey. It's for theirs. You can tell when you forget your password, then go someplace to reset it, and when you reset it, they say it can't be one you used before.

WHY NOT?? My account has NEVER been broken into before. The previous password worked just fine!!

No, they is for THEIR protection, not mine.

There was one site or service that had a password limit of, I think 16 characters maximum. I did NOT expect to get an "Exceeds maximum password length" error on what I thought was a reasonable password.

I was about to mention that. That's the one thing that irritates me the most. Some have a length limit AND do not accept special characters. And I think that was for a bank account! Why do you want to make it easy for hackers to get into my bank account?! Oh yeah, and it wasn't 16 characters. It was a 10 character limit! I can't even fit my name into a 10 character limit.
