Sonic looks so weird in the trailer. Some angles and shots look okay, but all the other 90% just look so, so wrong

If they made him more hedgehog like, like you edited. Then it'd be so much more enjoyable and pleasing for us all to watch

The big issue is the design doesn't really POP.

So much just blends into each other.

It's the whole reason Mickey Mouse has that that particular design with his gloves, Pikachu with stripes and cheeks, etc.

Contrast. A simple design contrast so it doesnt allow the design to become too complicated but still keeps it visibly distinct enough to be recognizable. The shape is important but the actual individual color elements equally so.

I think the problem is that he appears to humanoid. I mean look at the legs alone. A dangerous area in the uncanny valley.

Honestly I'm glad some people can appreciate the design even if a little bit. Obviously I'm in the majority of people where he makes me Uncomfortable and I don't like him at all, though xD

But every single edit I've seen has made the design better than before which is sad. It feels like the higher ups at the studio refused to let Sonic look emotive in any sense so he ended up weirdly stiff... which is the worst for a character that's supposed to be able to zoom around. I also specifically hate these two things:

- his human teeth and lips DDDDD:
- his furry white hands?? I mean, I get gloves can be cheesy but he's also a hedgehog idk how I feel about that

From what I understand they never even checked with Sega on this.
Sega's Sonic team is really pissed at how ugly it is.
The internet is just having a field day with it though

I don't know if you had heard but from the massive backlash the world gave the director he calmly decided to change the design of sonic.
Smart move rather than digging in his heels he realized that sonic looked like shit and made the right call

But we won't know how far until release.

these things help, but he needs a complete overhaul really. i am sure many artists could up with something visually appealing, so i can only assume they wanted it to look weird.

The edits you made are not bad, but his mouth just, it reaches way to close to realistic, and weirdly stiff for a fear face y'know. Also his belly fur not matching his mouth is weird to me. Also why neon? I get it is supposed to look striking but it just agh I want to question alot with his design. The got his height right technically, but his head looks weird as its modern sonic's head, but on a classic sonic proportion which really does not fit shape wise. The animation needed more weight to it, sonic bordered on t posing when he was just doing his spin attack, something that had been done waaaay better in hand drawn animation in Sonic CD and Mania. I get he is in the "real" world, but the arching back to ball form just feels way better in animation.

Seriously this design and the way this is handled is severe damage to Sega's already admittedly lackluster reputation and if they are upset a suit might be the only way to get any respect back.

They do a good enough job shooting their own foot and don't need help

This one is the best redo I've seen.

It just feels like they went to the laziest path for the face rigging.

He looks like the Annoying Orange just in blue

Cartoony anthropomorphic blue hedgehog + live action + too human a look = 5/95 chance I will consider watching this.

Besides that, there are some great memes on insta with this so I’m fine with it.

I think it's the lack of eyebrows what makes him look so weird D; and the body shape, it looks like someone dressed up as sonic tbh

I very agree of what you edit. it makes him look a lot better since the him in the movie version lacks the depth of the eyes and the lips is too realistic

Should have just gone all out and ditched any realistic CGI look

Even with these changes i think the biggest issue is just the shape of the mouth as a whole.. teh fangs help but its too small. it LOOKS like they pulled an annoying orange trick where the mouth dosen't fit the creature.

Huh, interesting. The lack of presence over the eyes does mess it up a lot.
