The next piece in my Monsters and the Maidens Who Love Them series.
A little warm-up I did today. I have a bunch of art projects to tackle, and thought I'd spend a little time practicing with another Monsters and the Maidens Who Love Them series. Nosferatu was an interesting vampire film, both the original 1920's version and the 1970's version. I always remember the opening to the 70's one as being especially creepy. This was so much fun to draw! I actually had to go back and watch the 1979 version of Nosferatu, directed by Werner Herzog, while I finished it. But my real inspiration for this was "Shadow of the Vampire," which is sort of a metafiction horror film about the production of the 1922 Nosferatu. In the movie Max Schrek, who played the original Count Orlok, isn't an actor, he actually IS a vampire. Really great film if you haven't seen it. I wanted to do a vampire themed piece for my Monsters and Maidens collection, but most modern vampires aren't quite monster-y enough... except for Count Orlok. Don't get me wrong, I love vampires who want to seduce humans, but I like them to be a little creepy while they do it. Count Orlok and his love interest/late-night-snack Ellen, seemed like a perfect fit.
