Quick question is Illeroi meant to be a sympathetic villain, if so well done. Ciel portrays him as a decent fellow till the war in the north and the death of his queen drove him to madness and genocide. You can see the madness progress from Cinderfrost to Silk Sash, from caring to lashing out at his own son. You’ve spent years developing this story and I can’t help but think that Illeroi isn’t the main villain in this, merely a pawn to a greater power. My apologies, I rarely comment but, I love the design of the lions in your stories, and the latest page of Sword of Souls somewhat unnerved me. Sorry for blathering on, I tend to over think things, keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing more of your comics.
I tend not to write characters with the idea that they're all good, or all evil, so the same can definitely be applied to Illeroi! When I write the story and characters, my intent is mostly just to tell a story of complicated individuals. It can be harder to convey in comics, where everything is so visual and I rely so heavily on dialogue for exposition, but I try to give every character their own motivations and history so there's at least some depth to them and why they do the things they do (whether that's good or bad things). Thanks for giving your interpretations though, I really appreciate it!
Thank you for explaining, showing the how and why, smart. Once I read this part I liked and pitied Illeroi a lot more despite the terrible things he's done, knowing what your characters went through before the events of the main story gives them a great deal more depth. I do hope theirs a chance for redemption, though I think I know how journey ends. As I said I overthink characters and situations in comics like yours and it eats away at me till I ask. Again thank you for explaining and sorry for any inconvenience I may have cause I have no doubt your busy finishing up Sword of Souls. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
