The 2nd Ranger Battalion is one of three ranger battalions belonging to the United States Army's 75th Ranger Regiment - an elite special operations regiment trained for direct action missions. Currently based at Joint Base Lewis-McChord south of Seattle, Washington, the 2nd Battalion consists of roughly 600 elite army rangers. They are divided into a battalion headquarters and four rifle companies. Each rifle company consists of a company headquarters; three rifle platoons; and a weapons platoon, including mortar and sniper sections.
D Company of the 2nd Ranger Battalion was attached to the First Special Service Force (FSSF) in 1995, serving during the Twilight War. The FSSF had the distinction of being the first joint US-Canadian task force to serve in combat since the Second World War, seeing action in Western Europe and the Far East.
